After finishing high school, he participated in a TAFE survival skills course where he showed his people's traditional stories and lifestyle through artwork. In 1997, he won NAIDOC Scholar of the Year Award and, a year later, completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts at Canberra's Australian National University.
